LIVING FAITH FAMILY WORSHIP CHURCH
WATER BAPTISM
“The Father’s desire is that every person who has made the decision to believe in Jesus should be baptized. A personal relationship with Jesus is the only biblical requirement for baptism.” (Acts 2:41; 8:12; Mt. 28:18-20)
QUESTION: Why should I be baptized? JESUS: “Being baptized means you are”
... following my example.” (Mark 1:9)
... following my commanded.” (Matthew
28:18-20)
... providing evidence of our relationship.” (Acts 18:8)
QUESTION: What is the message of baptism?
“Baptism is a symbol of a person’s identification with The Lord, His death, burial and
resurrection.” (Rom. 6:3-5; Col. 2:12)
“Baptism is an outward demonstration of your new life in
Christ and your identification with God’s people.” (2 Cor. 5:17; Gal. 3:26-27)
QUESTION: How am I supposed to be baptized?
“Just like Our Lord Jesus by immersion in water.” (Mt. 3:16)
“Just like every Christian in the Bible.” (Acts 8:38-39; 10:47-48)
QUESTION: When should I be baptized?
“As soon as you have placed your faith in Jesus to be your Savior from sin you can and should be baptized. There is no reason to delay!” (Acts 2:41; 8:36-38)
Mat 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Baptism isn't an option - it was Jesus' command.
Baptism is an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace.
It's an outward sign of something that God did in your heart.
So what is it a sign of?
Baptism is a sign that sin's power over us is broken.
Every human suffers from a sin virus that makes sinning seem attractive to us.
The Bible teaches that we are all under the power of this virus, but that if we die, it has no more power over us.
Christians call this dying to sin. (Rom 6:1-7)
Anyone can be baptized if they believe: you don't have to feel ready, or worthy, or wait for a certain amount of time.
Acts 8:12 But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.
Acts 8:36-38 Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, "See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?" (37) Then Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." (38) So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. He believed and was baptized - immediately!
